Moto Academy NZ has provided a professional structure for junior and novice motorcycle road race training in New Zealand. Moto Academy NZ is based on fee paying riders having access to professionally prepared Honda RS125GP motorcycles, full riding safety equipment, paddock infrastructure and tuition, mentoring and guidance through a season of classroom instruction, testing days and racing.

The long term goal of Moto Academy NZ is to emulate the model and the success of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Europe where over 600 riders compete in each continent for 28 fully subsidised places.
To this end we have secured a reserved place at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup selection for a rider selected by us to trial for the 2012 season.
In 2008 we sent Luke Jameson of Wellington to Portugal and in 2009 we sent Avalon Biddle of Orewa to Italy. In 2010 we had no suitable candidates. Other riders to try out for Rookies Cup have been Nick Cain (Christchurch 2008), Dan Mettam (Auckland 2010), Jake Lewis (Rangiora 2010). In 2011 we selected Tyler Lincoln of Havelock North, but he and his family were ultimately not able to take up the opportunity. We will look at him again for 2012.
As a rider in Moto Academy NZ what can you expect to recieve?
Moto Academy NZ will provide you with a fully prepared late model Honda RS125 Grand Prix motorcycle, full Alpinestars leathers, boots and gloves, Forcefield T-Pro back and chest protectors and a top quality helmet of your design choice which will be yours to take home (In 2008 this was Arai Helmet). If it is damaged you will be able to replace it at a greatly reduced rate. Moto Academy NZ will provide a full garage infrastructure and mechanical support for each motorcycle and rider. In order to develop each rider, Moto Academy NZ will provide off-track tutorial sessions where a range of aspects of motorcycle sport will be instructed from rider safety, rider ettiquette, rules, skill development, physical training, mental training and racing skill and strategy to more business related aspects such as relationship development, suppliers, supporters, sponsors.
Moto Academy NZ will help you to develop your skills and abilities at a range of testdays and racing meetings throughout the year at Manfeild Autocourse, Taupo Circuit, Levels Raceway and Ruapuna Circuit.
In addition, if you possess the required attributes; age (13-16 years), height (up to approx 165cm), weight (up to approx 65kg), ability/willingness to relocate to Europe, ability to learn and apply lessons, ability to interact with a team, then you could be the rider selected to travel to Europe to compete for a place in Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2010.
As a rider in Moto Academy NZ what are you expected to do?
Moto Academy NZ is just that, an academy. It is not just a race team where results are the only acceptable outcome, it is not a championship chasing race team. It is a space where student riders are instructed and mentored in the sport and art of motorcycle roadracing and where they get a grounding to develop their skills which they can then take to a racing team in the future. Students are expected only to learn and to improve.
We ask that you:
Take it seriously, but maintain a holistic view of life. There is always more than one thing in life and one should not necessarily be totally focussed on any one thing alone at a young age. Motorcycle roadracing can be dangerous and it can be expensive, but it can also be highly rewarding. It therefore pays to take it seriously so that you will cement the lessons and improve your skills.
Pay your bills on time. Motorcycle racing is a capital intensive activity. If you do not pay your bills, then we cannot pay ours and you will not be able to continue to ride.
Attend all tutorial and track events organised throughout the season unless prior arrangements are made with Moto Academy NZ.
Present yourself and behave in as professional a manner as possible whenever you are representing Moto Academy NZ.
Treat all Moto Academy NZ equipment and people with respect. If you are rough with it, it will be rough back. After all, it is you that is on the bike!
Demonstrate an ability to learn the lessons provided and to apply those lessons on the bike, on the racetrack and in the paddock.
Have fun!
